Van Electrical & Power Systems
Inverters, battery banks, shore power and cargo lighting, designed and installed in house in Broomfield, Colorado.
Run tools, laptops, a fridge or medical equipment from the van without idling it. We size the system to what you actually plug in, build it to a written wire list, and keep it separate from the battery you need to start the engine.
What we build
Tell us what you need to run and for how long. That decides the inverter, the battery bank and how it all charges.
Inverter/Chargers
Pure sine inverter/chargers, from a small 500 watt unit for chargers and laptops up to full systems for power tools, with 120V outlets where you work and a remote within reach.
Battery Banks
AGM and lithium house batteries that charge off the alternator while you drive and off shore power when you're parked. A relay or isolator keeps them separate from the starting battery.
Shore Power
An exterior inlet so the van plugs in overnight, feeding a charger or converter and hardwired outlet strips inside.
Cargo Area LED Lighting
Our most common add-on: four 12 inch LED light bars with individual and master switches, plus a low-voltage cutoff to help protect the battery.
Switch Panels & Distribution
Fuse blocks, breakers, bus bars and battery switches, sized to the load and labeled, often in a vented cabinet with the switch panel on the front.
Engineered Systems
On larger builds we produce a job wire list before work starts, so every cable and fuse size is set by the actual load. We also relocate and rewire systems other shops installed.
Power Planner: what does your van need to run?
This is the same power audit our team uses to size a system, made simple. Add your equipment, see a rough estimate of the inverter and battery bank it takes, then send it to us with one click.
1. Your system
2. Your equipment
Use the watts on the label. If the label only shows amps, enter the volts and amps instead and leave watts at 0.
3. Solar (optional)
Your estimate
Important: this is a rough estimate, not a design.
The Power Planner is a planning tool. It gives approximate numbers based on typical wattages and ideal conditions. Real equipment, startup surge from motors and compressors, wiring, temperature and charging conditions all change the results.
It is not engineering advice, and it is not a substitute for a system designed and installed by a qualified professional. Every system we build is reviewed and designed by our team before we quote or install it.
Electrical systems built incorrectly can cause fire, injury and damage. Volition Components is not responsible for any damage, injury or loss that results from using this tool or its results to buy, build or install an electrical system yourself or through anyone else.
Who we build for
- Trades running power tools and chargers off the van
- Mobile offices and command vehicles
- Medical and outreach vans
- Public safety vehicles with lights, radios and laptops
- Anyone tired of idling the engine to keep things running
Questions we get a lot
How big a system do I need?
It depends on what you run and for how long. Try the Power Planner above for a rough number, or send us the list of equipment and a typical day, and we'll size it from there.
Lithium or AGM?
Lithium weighs less and gives you more usable power per battery. AGM costs less up front. We'll tell you which makes sense for how you use the van.
Can you fix or add to a system that's already in the van?
Yes. We regularly rework existing systems, relocate inverters, and replace fusing that wasn't sized right the first time.
